Bruno Mars, Where art Thou?

There’s only one man that can shake up the Grammy’s but he’s been MIA since 2016

I want to start off this article by saying that I’m not an outright T-Swift hater. Although I can agree that she’s a talented songwriter, I’m not ashamed to admit that I’m by no means a Swiftie (sorry…?).

This past weekend, Taylor Swift won her fourth album of the year award, a Grammy that has not yet been bestowed upon Queen Bey for reasons unknown to the public. I cannot make a statement on whether or not this award was well-deserved simply because I have not listened to Midnights in its entirety.

But after scrolling through Twitter (not calling it X–it’s Twitter!), and seeing people with similar sentiments, it begs the question: where the hell is Bruno Mars?

Bruno Mars, born Peter Hernandez, is half-Filipino and recently did a concert in Manila last summer where he spoke some Tagalog to the crowd. He is no stranger to putting out hit after hit after the release of his debut album Doo-Wops and Hooligans in 2010, but his last album was released back in 2016—which, by the way, was SEVEN years ago.

Lest we mention: Mr. Mars has been nominated for 31 Grammy’s, winning 15.

Taylor Swift and Grammy’s aside—we are just in need of some new, good pop music. And Bruno Mars is the guy to do the job.

So, I ask: what has Bruno Mars been up to?

Well, for one thing, he has been going on a mini-world tour. Slated to end in March 2024, Bruno Mars has so far performed in Singapore, the Philippines, and even a Las Vegas Residency. Speaking of Vegas, he is set to open a cocktail and lounge bar called The Pinky Ring where, for the first two weeks of its opening, he will perform with his band The Hooligans.

And most notably, he has announced that he is working on a new album. This announcement came back in February 2023, and along with the new album, Bruno will debut a “new aesthetic.” Whatever that means, I think we can all collectively agree that we are intrigued.

With a new album comes a new tour, and I hope this is the year where we will get new tunes and a fun time in an arena to go with it.
